Short Term and Medium Term Accommodation

IDEA understands that sometimes the unexpected happens – a crisis occurs; you face a sudden change in circumstance; your carer needs respite or is temporarily unable to look after you.  During those trying times, it is essential to have access to safe accommodation where you will receive the personalised care you need.

We offer temporary accommodation for participants with disabilities.  NDIS describes this type of accommodation as Short Term Accommodation and Medium Term Accommodation:

Short Term Accommodation (STA)

STA is a temporary supported accommodation for a period of 2-6 weeks, available through the Core funding of your plan.

Eligible NDIS participants can access STA for reasons such as:

  • A change in circumstances, or a crisis situation that put the person at risk of homelessness or being placed into an aged care facility prematurely.

  • To receive capacity building or independent living support

  • For carer’s respite, or if support staff are on leave

  • For a holiday in a different setting

  • If you are waiting for home modifications

  • Recovering from an illness

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)

MTA refers to a transitional accommodation for NDIS participants who are preparing to move into a more permanent home. The NDIS funds eligible participants for up to 90 days. This is so people living with disabilities aren’t forced into an aged care facility or made to wait in hospital longer than they need to.

MTA is available to eligible NDIS participants who require temporary transitional housing while they wait for their more permanent home to become ready or available to use.

Short Term and Medium Term Accommodation

IDEA understands that unexpected situations can arise—a crisis occurs, circumstances suddenly change, or your carer needs respite or is temporarily unable to look after you. During these challenging times, having access to safe accommodation with personalized care is crucial.

We offer temporary accommodation for participants with disabilities, which NDIS categorizes as Short Term Accommodation (STA) and Medium Term Accommodation (MTA):

Short Term Accommodation (STA)

STA provides temporary supported accommodation for a period of 2-6 weeks, available through the Core funding of your plan.

Eligible NDIS participants can access STA for reasons such as:

  • A change in circumstances or a crisis situation that puts the person at risk of homelessness or premature placement into an aged care facility
  • Receiving capacity building or independent living support
  • Carer’s respite, or if support staff are on leave
  • A holiday in a different setting
  • Waiting for home modifications
  • Recovering from an illness

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)

Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) provides transitional housing for NDIS participants preparing to move into a more permanent home. The NDIS funds eligible participants for up to 90 days to prevent individuals with disabilities from being forced into an aged care facility or having to stay in a hospital longer than necessary.

MTA is available to eligible NDIS participants who need temporary housing while waiting for their permanent home to be ready or available.
